Where Oh Where Should You Get Married?
Figuring out where to get married isn’t the easiest process in the world. There are, actually, a lot of things that you need to consider. It’s not a decision that you’ll want to take lightly.
Most people get married in their hometown for obvious reasons. However, destination weddings are also becoming more popular as couples seek spectacular venues to tie the knot.
In this post, we take a look at some of the factors you’ll want to consider when choosing a wedding location. Check them out below:
The Travel Time
If you’re holding a wedding right in your own backyard, then travel time will be minimal. A taxi ride from your house to the wedding venue might take fifteen minutes. However, if you’re hosting a wedding on the other side of the planet (perhaps because of the spectacular views or stunning scenery) then travel time will be significantly higher.
You’ll need to ask yourself whether your guests will be willing to spend up to 36 hours on flights and in airports getting to your destination. You’ll also have to ask whether the cost of doing so is worth it to them, or whether you’ll be footing the bill.
Many guests might not be able to attend your wedding day if you host the wedding too far away. Those without passports may not even be able to travel to another country.
The Cost
The average cost of a wedding is around $30,000. However, destination weddings tend to be more expensive, precisely because they are in high-demand locations. The average cost of a New York wedding, for instance, is over $75,000.
If you go to a destination to tie the knot, you may have to pay guests’ travel expenses as well. It could cost you tens of thousands of dollars to fly everyone out, saddling you with debt for years to come.
The Vendors
When you choose a destination wedding, you’ll need to carefully consider vendors, too. If you can find a destination wedding photographer, you can get high-quality photos wherever you go. However, you may not be able to find destination caterers or florists. Most will only operate in a set geographic region. Therefore, you’ll want to make sure that you have access to quality services before you go ahead and start booking flights and services.
The Venue
Destination wedding venues tend to be spectacular while hometown venues are a little more down-to-Earth. Which you choose depends very much on your personal style. If you want memories that will last a lifetime, then a destination venue could be the ideal solution. If cost is more important to you, then something local might be a better option.
The Size Of The Wedding
Transporting a dozen people across the ocean for an intimate destination wedding is relatively easy. However, transporting hundreds is significantly more challenging. Some will be willing to make the trip, but most won’t.
Therefore, you’ll want to consider the size of your wedding before choosing a location. If you plan on having a larger wedding, a local venue might be better.
