Planning a Backyard Wedding
A backyard wedding can be one of the most romantic ways to tie the knot. It can also save you quite a bit on location costs. Besides, getting married in your backyard or the yard of a family member or friend can be a special way to celebrate your wedding.
Here are some tips for planning a great backyard wedding:
* Make sure you have enough space to accommodate the number of guests you want to invite. Create a blueprint of your backyard and figure out exactly where everything is going to be. The last thing you want is to get everything in your yard then realize you don’t have enough space.
* Speak to the other residents in your neighborhood ahead of time and make sure they’re aware of your wedding ceremony. This is a matter of etiquette and consideration, and your neighbors will appreciate it. You might even want to extend an invitation!
* Decide where everyone should park. If parking at the residence isn’t an option, then arrange for transportation from the nearest parking garage to the wedding location.
* When it comes to the food for your wedding, think backyard barbecue with a little added elegance. For a great outdoor menu try grilled favorites like steak, chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs. Perfect side dishes are potato salad, corn on the cob and roasted vegetables. Try a wedding cake in a light flavor like angel food or lemon, garnished with fresh summer berries. * Arrange for the rental of all necessities like tents and awnings ahead of time. Make sure all food areas are well shaded and arrange for safe outdoor food storage. * If children are going to be coming to the wedding, have a separate area complete with a babysitter or two to keep the children entertained while the ceremony is going on. Provide snacks, beverages, and something for the kids to do like toys and coloring books. * When decorating for your outdoor wedding, keep things natural. Try a bouquet of wildflowers and fragrant herbs, and keep your wedding colors light and fresh. Think pastels and shades that reflect nature like grass green, sky blue, and buttercup yellow. * If you’re worried about pesky mosquitos, gnats and flies, place lots of citronella candles on tables and provide bug repellant to guests. * Stay safe by making sure you’ve got a first aid kit and fire extinguisher on hand. * Keep things casual and fun. After all, that’s what a backyard wedding is all about! Don’t stress too much over the little things, and enjoy your special day!
