Wedding Memories Ideas – Bridal Bouquet Living Plant
This charming idea serves as a happy reminder of a wedding day. Create a living plant using sprigs of ivy from the bride’s bouquet. Present them in a personalized glass pot containing the terracotta pot for lasting wedding memories.
Ivy is traditionally used in bridal bouquets because of its symbolism. It stands for wedded love, fidelity, friendship and affection. Remember to pinch off two or three sprigs of foliage from the bouquet after the ceremony, and wrap them up in a damp paper napkin until you get home. The new bride will be thrilled to have a living part of her bouquet come back to her months after the flowers are gone.
You will need:
Small terracotta flowerpot
Large glass pot or other container
Moss
White or pastel glass painting marker
Decorative ribbon or trim
Double-sided tape
How to:
Line the bottom of the glass pot with moss. Place the small terracotta pot centred on the moss. Make sure there is about 1cm (1/2″) of space between the sides of the small pot and the larger one.
Gently insert small pieces of moss in the space between the two pots until the cavity is completely filled. With a white or pastel fine-line paint pen, write your message on the outside of the glass pot.
Attach a piece of ribbon or trim to the top edge of the pot with double-sided tape. Carefully transplant your rooted ivy into the terracotta pot.
Rooting the Ivy:
Rooting ivy is simple. First remove two or three leaves from the cut end of the ivy sprigs. Place the cuttings in water with a small amount of plant food and allow them to sit for several weeks, making sure there is plenty of water, until roots begin to sprout. Then transfer the ivy to a small pot filled with potting soil. Water and feed the cutting until you present it to the bride.
Tip:
You can also write your message for the outside of the pot on a small piece of paper, tape it to the inside of the glass, and trace the lettering with a marker pen.
