Wedding Photography Trends
Wedding trends change through the years and your Wedding pictures cannot remain unaffected. Wedding photography has undergone many changes. A look into the studios of some of the most popular wedding photographers brought to light several trends that seem to be favorites with couples these days. As with all wedding trends, you would want to choose what works best with your wedding style and tailor them to your liking. The best approach would be to combine traditional photography with these trends.
Sepia Tones
Black and White pictures have had their heydays in the early 2000, but the recent years have seen the resurgence of the B/W photos and it has become one of the hottest wedding photography trends of recent times.
Some photographers say their customers want that half (or more) shots in black and white. True professionals are delighted to accept such a request: it allows them to bring to light all their artistic qualities and play with light to get stunning results.
Editorial/Photojournalist Style
More and more brides and grooms want their pictures to tell a story, show the course of the day and capture small and unusual details. This is made possible with candid photos taken with no physical interference from the photographer. The topic of marriage has its full importance, because the photographer often uses the room decorations and accessories to create original images that reflect the overall atmosphere of the day.
Fashion Magazine Style Pictures
Fancy yourself on the cover of ‘Vogue’ or ‘Cosmopolitan’? Wearing your fabulous wedding gown? If you said yes, you are in good company. Most Brides love to get such ‘posed’ shots fit for a magazine cover. After all, it is not everyday that we have the opportunity to be the queen!
For this reason, more and more brides demand a special session (which may take place before or after the wedding day) to take all imaginable poses surrounding themselves with glamorous accessories and choosing romantic backdrops like ancient ruins, waterfront, artful modern buildings, blooming gardens etc. An indoor studio setup also gives miraculous results. Anything goes!
Vintage Style
Vintage is one of the favorites of all couples, especially those who opt for country weddings. This style creates moods “of the past” with various colorful accessories recalling the yesteryears like the 40s, 50s, 60s or otherwise, or to recreate images that seem straight out of the wedding albums of your grandmother.
To achieve this effect, you can either go for Vintage themed decorations, accessories, hairstyles and car. Or you can opt for photography and photo printing techniques of yesteryears like polaroid cameras or 70’s style colors for the photos.
A Second Photographer for Candid Shots
Traditionally, the photographer follows step by step, the bride’s preparations and then focuses on the couple during the ceremony and reception, except for a few pictures of the guests. When photographers work in teams of two people, it is possible to capture a lot of little moments that might have passed into oblivion: children’s games, preparations of the groom and groomsmen, decorating the room for the reception, the tears of mothers during the ceremony, etc.
A second photographer is a great idea for any wedding, but essential if you have more than 100 people on your list.
Photo Sessions before and/or After Marriage (Trash the Dress)
If you want to spend more time with your loved ones and avoid long photo sessions on the day of the ceremony, it is possible to schedule a session with your photographer before or after the big day. You’ll have plenty of time to play the star and try out different poses without the nervous stress of the wedding day. The trend “Trash the Dress” is particularly popular.
This involves a photo session (after the big day, of course) during which the bride poses in her wedding dress in all imaginable activities: horseback riding, running into the sea, etc. And no, you do not necessarily ‘trash’ your dress if you are careful enough and choose your poses wisely!
Funny Posed Photographs
Wedding pictures are all that remain years down the lane. Adding a funny detail or two is the ‘in’ thing to do these days. If you want a good laugh when you turning the pages of your wedding album years later, go in for a few ‘posed’ photographs like the ones here. Gather the bridesmaids and the groomsmen and let them pose for a ‘once in a lifetime’ fun photo i.e. as long as they are cool with it. You don’t want to hurt any feelings there.
And don’t forget to send them a copy of the picture each later. They will all remember your Big Day forever!
