Black and White Theme Wedding
If you’re planning to tie the knot and want something different and dramatic, consider a black and white theme wedding. The combination of these two colors is simple yet striking, bold yet refined. Some couples use an accent color like red or pink in small doses, others stay strictly black and white. The black and white color scheme can be reflected everywhere from your invitations to your wedding cake. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Invitations: You shouldn’t have any problem finding black and white invitations. Many stationery stores provide custom designed invitations for their clients. For example you can choose the style and color of the text as well as the particular style invitations and envelopes you want. This makes creating your invitations to match your wedding theme easy. Styles will range from basic to extravagant. With a black and white theme wedding, the more streamlined everything is, the better.
Apparel: Men will of course wear black and white tuxedos. Brides look amazing in bridal gowns that feature minimal ornamentation and clean lines. A ballerina style gown is ideal for the bride who wants a full skirt, while other brides prefer a sheath style dress. Stay away from lots of lace, ruffles or beading. Think old Hollywood glamour when choosing your gown and accessories. The bridesmaids and maid of honor can wear black dresses. Or, they can wear black and white dresses. Black and white polka dots are retro chic for the ladies in your bridal party.
Decorations and Flowers: Balloons and streamers in black and white are perfect to add festive glamour. Go for a black tablecloth and white place settings, or a white tablecloth and black place settings. Bouquets of flowers look fantastic as table centerpieces. It is easy enough to find white flowers, but a bit more difficult to find black ones. There are varieties of tulips and roses that are as close to black as you can get. Or, go for silk flowers that have been dyed black. For the bridal bouquet follow the same scheme and add black and white ribbons. For a modern twist, have your flower girl toss black and white heart shaped confetti instead of flower petals.
Menu: Tuxedo strawberries look fabulous as appetizers or as part of dessert for a black and white wedding. Dark and white chocolate is used to paint tuxedo designs on the berries. When it comes to beverages, serve white and red wine and black and white Russian cocktails. Offer sparkling cider and virgin drinks for guests who don’t drink alcohol. Your entree can be anything you like, although something classic like salmon or prime rib works well. Your wedding cake can be either chocolate cake with white icing or vanilla cake with chocolate icing. Today’s creative bakers can come up with amazing concoctions to match any theme, including black and white.
Favors: You’ll want to give your guests wedding favors as a token of appreciation. Small bottles of blowing bubbles wrapped in pretty black or white tulle are a perfect idea. When the wedding couple departs, guests can blow bubbles instead of throwing rice which is bad for birds. To stay as close to tradition as possible while remaining eco-friendly, give guests bundles of birdseed to toss. Disposable cameras make nice favors for any theme wedding because guests can capture their own memories of your special day.
