Medieval Theme Wedding

If you’re looking for a magical and beautiful wedding theme, consider a medieval theme. There’s no better way to feel like a princess on your most special day. Medieval weddings are quite popular, therefore you’ll have no problem finding plenty of accessories which suit this theme. Check out the following ideas for planning your medieval style wedding and reception:

Location: If you’ve got a castle near you, then you have the perfect location for your medieval theme wedding. Most castles can be booked for special occasions like weddings and receptions. If there is no castle in your area, choose a gothic style church if you can. Actually, any setting of your choice can be decorated to accommodate this wedding theme.

Invitations: Invitations can be written in old fashioned calligraphy and sealed with red wax and a decorative emblem. If you like, make your invitations into scrolls and secure with a pretty ribbon. If you go for traditional card style invites, choose Old English style lettering and perhaps an image of a medieval castle.

Apparel: There are plenty of medieval style gowns out there from which you can choose. The most commonly worn style for this theme is the empire waist. The empire waist features a bodice which ends directly under the bustline and falls in a straight line to the floor. Traditional headwear for a medieval style wedding might include either a Juliet cap or garland of flowers instead of a veil. Bridesmaids and your maid of honor can also wear empire waist dresses. Men can wear traditional wedding apparel, or go authentic in tunic style shirts.

Decorations: Think gothic glamour when setting the scene. Dramatic candleholders and lots of candles are perfect for this theme. Choose lots of dark pewter and sparkling jewel tones like ruby red, emerald green or sapphire blue. Flowers in dramatic shades of dark red accented with lush green foliage are perfect, as are centerpieces of fragrant dried herbs and fruits.

Menu: There are many different dishes you can have at your medieval style wedding. Appetizers can include delights like cheese straws, deviled eggs and sugared almonds. For the main course, go for baked ham and and prime rib. Side dishes can include cold fruit soup, pickled carrots and individual size fruit tarts. Fresh fruit with chocolate dipping sauce is ideal for dessert, along with wedding cake, of course. Top the wedding cake of your choice with a cake topper made to look like a medieval castle.

Favors: Wedding favors for a medieval style wedding should be wrapped in velvet pouches and secured with silk cord for the most authentic look. You can choose most anything, from wrapped candies to small bottles of bubbles. Seed packets are a nice idea as well. Solid perfume in small jars are great favors for ladies. One traditional idea is to present guests with small glass bottles filled with honey, adorned with a pretty ribbon.
