A Guide to Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Special Day
Weddings are special, beautiful occasions that celebrate two people’s love for each other with a special ceremony and party afterwards to celebrate. Tears are shed, drinks flow, and amazing outfits spin around the dancefloor in flashes of colour – but there’s one outfit that’s more important than any of them. The bride’s wedding dress! The wedding dress must be perfect, and the bride needs to be in love with it in order for her to enjoy her day and feel beautiful and comfortable. If you’ll soon have the task of selecting a wedding dress, follow our advice to get it right!
Have Your Fitting Early On
If you book your fitting early on in the day, you’ll have the full attention of the shop staff. They’ll naturally be more energised and willing to help you in your search – whereas booking a fitting later on in the day can mean tired, lethargic staff and little help given to you.
Choose a Shape That Suits You
Just as there are wedding rings to suit a range of styles and tastes, wedding dresses come in many different shapes, so it’s important you choose a shape to suit your body type. Bear in mind that dresses will look different on the hanger to what they look like on your body, and the dress shape you had in mind might not suit you in real life. Keep an open mind in your search!
Make Sure You Can Move
You need to make sure you’re comfortable, and that you’ll be able to move for the rest of your special day – otherwise you won’t enjoy yourself, and then what’s the point? Just take a look at those girls on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding – their dresses are so huge that they can barely breath, or move, or even fit into any kind of vehicle. Although the dresses are beautiful, they’re impractical – make sure you’re free to enjoy your day.
Ask Questions
Ask plenty of questions about the dresses to the shop staff to get an idea of how popular they are, how much they cost, etc. Also ask whether the shop has a non returnable policy. If they do, you’ll have to be 100% sure about the dress and accessories you buy, otherwise you could be stuck with an expensive tiara or veil that you don’t actually like.
Take Your Camera
If you’re allowed, take pictures of each dress you like on you, so you can go away and look at them later on with a fresh mind.
Go Alone or With a Small Group
Many people think they have to go with a large group of women, but this can make things difficult with a range of different opinions. If you go by yourself you’ll end up with a dress that you love, nobody else. You could always take a small group consisting of your mom, best friend, and any siblings – but we wouldn’t recommend any more.
Having the perfect dress sets you up to have the perfect day – so follow our advice, and then have the most amazing wedding ever!
